FREE Tools for Teachers

Open Office Software Suite - A free program, very similar to Microsoft Office.  Files are interchangeable
with Office documents.

MWSnap - A free "screen capture" program that allows the user to define and capture, as a picture file,
anything the user can see on the screen.

DVD Shrink - A free program that allows the user to copy virtually any DVD.  Please be aware of
applicable copyright laws.

Audacity - Free, open source software for recording and editing sound files.

Any Video Converter - Free, open source software that converts most videos from one format to
another.  The link to the free version (Any Video Converter Free Version) is found at the fifth entry in
the list, hear the bottom of the page.

FreeRice.com - A vocabulary game with the added bonus of helping to feed hungry people throughout  
the world.  Apparently it adjusts the difficulty level as the player progresses.

National Council for the Social Studies.  Great source for social studies materials.

Outline Maps - Education Place.  Printable.

Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection: Outline Map Sites.  This is from the main library website at the
University of Texas at Austin.

United Streaming - Discovery Education streaming is a digital video-on-demand and online teaching
service to help improve students' retention and test scores; it is aligned to U.S. state and provincial
standards.
